PROGRAMMES: Intermediate and Junior Finals
PROGRAMMES: Intermediate and Junior Finals
December 10, 2021
It has been a hectic four weeks, but this weekend the curtain falls on the 2021 Leinster LGFA Club Intermediate and Junior Club Championships.
And the finals are a Dublin/Longford double as Colmcille and Longford Slashers represent Longford while St Judes and St Sylvesters will be hoping to do Dublin proud.
On Saturday, Colmcille captained by Gráinne Reilly will go toe to toe with Dublin champions St Judes captained by Aoife Keyes. With the 2020 Junior Club Title residing in Longford through Ballymore, Colmcille will be confident of doing a Longford two-in-a-row in the Junior Club Championship. Colmcille overcame Louth champions Kilkerley Emmets in the opening round, a victory which saw them through to a semi-final, thanks to a bye in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, they drew a defiant Laois side Ballyfin. However, they saw off their challenge last weekend by 1-12 to 0-05 and with Michelle Farrell bolstering the Colmcille midfield, they will be confident of a similar result this week.
However, Dublin champions St Judes will have different plans for the Junior Club title. Defeating Skryne in the quarter-finals, St Jude's headed to the sunny south-east and a semi-final battle with Kilanerin ensued. However, a 3-09 to 1-06 victory there saw the ladies from the Capital into the final.
The game will be streamed live on Leinster LGFA Facebook by Ntrai with Jason Keelan and Ballymore legend, Mary Kiernan, on commentary.
On Sunday, the Intermediate Club Final will see the end of the 2021 Club Championships in Leinster. And what a game in prospect. Dublin champions, St Sylvesters will take on Longford Slashers again in Kinnegad. St Sylvesters have been hugely impressive in their round games so far with Dublin LGFA Captain Sinéad Aherne hitting 3-15 for Anthony Cooke's side. Defeating Bennekerry Tinryland in the preliminary round, the Dannielle Lawless captained team travelled to Laois, defeating Ballyroan by 2-15 to 1-10 in the quarter-final. In last week's semi-final, goals from Sinéad Aherne and Nicole Owens were among the highlights as Syls defeated The Downs by 2-09 to 0-06 to book their place in Sunday's final. However, their opposition will be every bit as convinced they can take home the title. A narrow one-point win against Navan O'Mahonys proved their mettle at provincial level, booking them a semi-final place. In last week's semi-final, Slashers reversed their result against Shelmalier who had beaten them the previous season, defeating the Wexford champions by 2-08 to 0-07, Jessica Barry instrumental upfront and Emer Casey vital between the posts.
Jerome Quinn will bring you this game live from Kinnegad on the Leinster LGFA Facebook page.
