THE Ladies Gaelic Football Association is delighted to confirm Dublin star Lyndsey Davey as ambassador for the Association’s new ‘BUA’ Leadership programme.

The five-time TG4 All-Ireland Senior medallist took time out of her busy schedule to help launch the programme – as Dublin prepare for a Lidl National League Division 1 Final against Cork at Croke Park on Saturday, June 26.

As well as serving as a ‘BUA’ ambassador, Davey, who’s also a five-time TG4 All Star, will work as a mentor to her Skerries Harps club-mate Lauren Fanning, who will be one of 35 ‘BUA’ participants.

Females from 21 counties will take part in the self-development initiative which has been designed to support young people in the LGFA as they develop leadership skills and qualities to benefit their local communities.

Aimed at females aged 16-19 years of age, ‘BUA’ will be conducted through expert-led workshops and self-reflection, before participants put their enhanced leadership skills into practice through a club action project.

Selected participants will engage in learning and cover topics essential for young people, including:

  • Resilience
  • Dealing with change
  • Building trust and respect
  • Conflict resolution
  • Problem-solving
  • Project planning and delegation

In addition, LGFA-specific topics including introductions to coaching, officiating and administration will be covered.

‘BUA’ will begin this month and finish in February 2022, with participants attending five leadership training sessions remotely, while there will be two LGFA-specific modules between each leadership session that participants can choose from, depending on their area of interest.

Commenting on the launch of the programme, ‘BUA’ ambassador Lyndsey Davey said: “I’m delighted to become an ambassador for this exciting new programme.

“During my career as a Ladies Gaelic Footballer, I’ve not only learned skills to assist me on the field of play, but I’ve also developed life skills to benefit me as a person.

“Many of the skills that players acquire off the field of play, and in their daily lives, can be put to good use in game situations – and vice versa – and they’ve certainly stood me in good stead throughout my career.

“I wish each and every one of the participants taking part in the ‘BUA’ programme the very best of luck and I look forward to following their journeys in the months ahead.”
