Four fixtures are down for decision in the opening round of this year’s Leinster Junior and Intermediate Club Championships. The eagerly anticipated championships are a highlight in the LGFA calendar and this year even more so.
Dublin Champions, Cuala are back in the hunt for provincial silverware having annexed the Leinster Junior Club Title in 2017. Cuala were single point victors against Castleknock in a thrilling Dublin final with Martha Byrne converting a stoppage time point to seal victory. They face Longford champions, Longford Slashers who had nine points to spare against Carrickedmond in their County final. Kate Shannon was the star performer, converting 2-05 over the course of the contest. Bray Emmets will host the Intermediate Club fixture with throw in time set for 2:15pm.

2018 All Ireland Junior Club winners Old Leighlin are back competing in Leinster at Intermediate grade having won three in a row of Carlow Senior titles. The Barry Hayes trained team overcame Bennekerry Tinryland in the final by 3-12 to 2-09 and in captain Anne Roche, they have an inspiring leader on the field. They face Wexford Champions, Shelmalier, who also have won three County titles in as many years. Pat Quill’s side overturned the challenge of Adamstown in their final, outscoring their opponents by 4-06 to 0-09. Captained by Wexford footballer Kellie Kearney, Shelmalier have a wealth of experience which they will be hoping to use tomorrow. In the Junior Championship, Wexford’s Kilmore will host Wicklow Champions Bray Emmets. Kilmore earned themselves a comprehensive win in their county final when they accounted for Gusserane, winning by 5-14 to 1-08. Bray Emmets were crowned Wicklow champions when they beat Clara by 3-10 to 3-07 after a thrilling contest which went all the way to extra time. An intriguing contest set for Kilmore GAA tomorrow! Carlow Champions’ Fenagh will get a taste of provincial action tomorrow when they host Meath champions Clann na nGael. The Stephen O’Brien managed side won their county title on a 2-17 to 3-08 scoreline and with County stars Oonagh Fitzpatrick, Antoinette Dowling and Eve Sinnott they will pose a serious threat. Clann na nGael last tasted provincial action in 2017 when they lost out to Cuala in the Leinster Junior Club Final. Louise O’Connor had a player of the match performance as Donie McLoughlin’s side defeated Skryne in the Meath Junior final by 5-09 to 4-09.
