2019 Leinster Minor Championship Underway this Weekend
February 15, 2019
The 2019 Leinster LGFA season gets underway this weekend with the opening round of the Minor Championship. The competition will be a welcome break for many exam students around the province who have for the most part completed their mock exams.
With the knockout competition a thing of the past, there will be more games for our minor players as the competition changes to a league format. The Minor Championship is one of Leinster’s most successful competitions and it is hoped changing to a league format will attempt to encourage continued participation amongst this age group.
It falls on Wicklow and Louth to get the Leinster Championships for 2019 underway when they meet in Bray Emmets GAA Club on Saturday 16th at 2pm. Then on Sunday at the earlier throw in time of 1:30pm, Carlow will travel to James Stephens where they will take on Kilkenny.
At 2pm then, the remaining fixtures will throw in. A re-run of the 2018 Final will see Dublin and Meath once again do battle at St. Margarets while reigning Minor B Champions Kildare will take on Offaly in Castlemitchell GAA in the other game in Group A.
In Group B, Wexford will host Westmeath at Coolgreaney GAA at 2:30pm while Laois and Longford will go head to head at Timahoe GAA.
After the last number of weeks of mock exams, getting back onto the fields will be just what the doctor ordered!
