Leinster Interprovincial Squad Named
November 20, 2018
Leinster LGFA are delighted to announce the 30 strong panel that will travel to Waterford IT this weekend for the Interprovincial competition. A competition which is normally jam packed into a busy early summer season is being given new life. Representatives from nine Leinster counties make up this year’s provincial team with Westmeath and Kildare contributing seven players each.
Senior Players’ Player of the Year and All Star Nominee, Dublin’s Lyndsey Davey will captain a provincial side that is the perfect blend of youth and experience. The squad will also have the expertise of Player of the Match from the All Ireland Senior Final, Carla Rowe while Wexford’s Mary Rose Kelly and Bernie Breen will also provide considerable experience to Doogue’s squad.
It has been a ground-breaking year for the Wicklow ladies. Their success in Division Four League final was only the start for the Garden County who went on to compete in the Intermediate final and they will see four players represent their province this weekend; Lorna Fusciardi, Jackie Kinch, Sarah Miley and their captain Sarah Hogan. Intermediate Champions Laois will have four representatives on the squad.
Fresh from their All Ireland Club semi final victory on Sunday for Foxrock-Cabinteely, Lorna Fusciardi, Fiona Claffey and Laura Nerney will continue their excellent seasons in the Leinster line-up. The trio were instrumental as FoxCab claimed a treasured spot in this year’s Senior Club Final on December 8th.
Recently named Leinster PPS Player of the Year, Laois’ Erone Fitzpatrick has also made the cut while 2018 All Ireland Minor winning Kildare captain Nessa Dooley will also feature. Offaly Captain Mairead Daly and Louth Vice-Captain Rebecca Carr will also don the green and white jersey while All Ireland finalists Meath will have one representative in Vikki Wall.
The Leinster squad will be managed by Kevin Doogue alongside Dominic Leech, Denise Masterson, Mark Murnaghan, Martin Kelly and Paul Garrigan. The action is set to get underway for Leinster at 11am where they will face Connacht. At 12:30 they face reigning champions Ulster while 2pm will see them face Munster. 3:30pm is the time set for the Cup and Shield Finals.
The very best of luck to Kevin Doogue, his management team and most importantly the players this weekend.
